innoFSPEC fellows visiting the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing

Dr.-Ing. Anne Hartwig to present on innoFSPEC core technologies at the State Key Laboratory on Multiphase Complex Systems, Institute of Process Engineering (http://eng.mpcs.cn/), Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, China. Dr. Hartwig gave a talk on "Photon Density Wave Spectroscopy as a new approach for monitoring the cooling cristallization from highly concentrated solutions".

The sponsorship of the German DAAD is gratefully acknowledged, allowing for in-depth discussions on how to link the German optical fiber instrumentation activities at innoFSPEC with the analytical challenges of Prof. Yongsheng Han's Chinese research team.

SALSA fellow Christian Heck @ Falling Walls Lab 2017, Berlin

How can diseases be detected as early as possible by analyzing human blood? This is the topic of Christian Heck, doctoral fellow at the School of Analytical Sciences Adlershof (SALSA) in Adlershof. His project has only been made possible by the close cooperation of three research institutions in Berlin-Brandenburg: University of Potsdam (Jprof Dr. Ilko Bald, innoFSPEC research group leader), Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM) and the Humboldt-University Berlin (Prof. Dr. Janina Kneipp).

With his 3 minutes pitch "Breaking the Wall of Biomarker Sensing" Christian Heck has recently won the Falling Walls Lab in Adlershof. He will now represent Adlershof in the Berlin finals at the Falling Walls Lab, 8/9 November 2017.

innoFSPEC @ 6th Scientific Detector Workshop in Baltimore (US)

We look back to the successful 6th Scientific Detector Workshop (SDW) held in Baltimore (US) where innoFSPEC was involved as a co-organizer. Furthermore, Prof. Martin Roth gave a talk on "Synergy between detectors in space and on the ground: spectacular details of resolved stellar populations revealed through the combination of ACS with MUSE".

SDW 2017 is the sixth installment of a successful series of workshops bringing together the scientists and engineers who develop, produce, implement and operate the most advanced imaging sensors used in scientific instrumentation. The focus is given to the fields of astronomy and earth sciences.

Ziyang Zhang as invited speaker at UPM 2017, Changchun, China

On September 25th, innoFSPEC research group leader Ziyang Zhang was invited to UPM 2017, the annual joint workshop between Germany and China on "Ultra Precision Manufacturing and free-form optics", where he gave a talk on "Compact spectrometer modules for astronomy, enabled by planar lightwave circuits and micro-optic assembly". Through discussion, complementary research expertise has been identified as opportunities for joint international research projects as well as exchange programs for senior and junior scientists.

The UPM conference 2017 is held in Changchun, co-organized by the Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics (CIOMP). This institute was founded in 1952 in China, focusing on luminescence, applied optics, optical engineering, precision mechanics and instrumentation (http://english.ciomp.cas.cn/).
