Light diagnosis directly on the patient

Many paths lead to personalized medicine. Scientists from innoFSPEC Potsdam and B CUBE Dresden make use of optical fibres and novel nanostructured materials with the aim, for example, to detect and to treat cancer. Recently, this new project called OptiZeD has started which was the background for an article published on the BMBF website, program "Innovation und Strukturwandel: https://www.innovation-strukturwandel.de/de/licht-diagnose-direkt-am-patienten-2590.html

Professor Loock from Canada as guest scientist @innoFSPEC

In October, we welcomed Prof. Dr. Hans-Peter Loock from Queen‘s University, Kingston in Ontario, for a three-months research stay funded by DAAD. We look forward to working with Hans-Peter Loock and his team on a project related to the development of fibre-optic sensors for process control of industrial non-ferrous metal smelters. We also plan to initiate further research projects, publications and academic exchanges during this visit.

Professor Loock is a highly renowned scientist in the fields of optical spectroscopy, sensing and analytics. He is a fellow both of the Optical Society of America and the Chemical Institute of Canada. Since 2015, he has been in the supervisory board of the Canadian Society for Chemistry, and one year later he became head of the Department of Chemistry at Queen‘s University. From January 2020, Professor Loock will serve as Dean of the Faculty of Science at the University of Victoria (British Columbia, Canada).

innoFSPEC presenting @EPIC World Photonics Technology Summit, 2019

Martin Roth was invited to give a talk on August 29, 2019, at the annual summit of EPIC (European Photonics Industry Consortium) in Berlin. With his presentation entitled "Astrophotonics - A New Star on the Horizon of Photonic Sensors“, Martin Roth presented recent research results and implications for the application of new photonic technologies.

EPIC is the foremost industry association that promotes the sustainable development of organisations working in the field of photonics in Europe.

Moving on to industry

innoFSPEC fellow Dr. Roland Hass continues his successful career by switching to BASF in Schwarzheide, Southern Brandenburg. Beginning of August 2019, our former head of the research group „Applied Analytical Photonics“ took over the position as team leader of the centre for process analytical technology at BASF. Due to the strong overlap with innoFSPEC research and transfer activities, we are planning to cooperate closely in the respective fields.

Three million euro for new methodology in personalised medicine

The Center for Molecular Bioengineering (B CUBE) of TU Dresden and innoFSPEC Potsdam, both are parts of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) centers for innovation competence (ZIK) initiative, will receive BMBF funding of approximately three million euros for the project „Optical Cell Diagnosis and Manipulation” (OptiZeD). Innovative methods for personalised medicine will be developed with the help of a novel, miniaturized multiparameter biosensor system.
